CRUISING THE MAIN RIVER
CRUISING THE MAIN RIVER
Last night we left the Rhine River behind and entered the Main River (pronounced mine) which is very narrow - even the lock walls are so close that we can reach out and touch them if we were so inclined. We intend to spend the day relaxing and recovering from yesterday's heat. The river is very narrow compared with the Rhine and the Danube so there isn't much riverboat traffic on it. Haven't seen much bird life but hear them singing in the trees. Canada and Egyptian geese abound along with Mallards, coots and moorhens.
After breakfast we adjourned to our room for some R&R and before we knew it, it was time for lunch. Just before lunch we sat out in an area at the front of the boat until the heat drove us inside which took all of ten minutes. After lunch I napped and Norma dozed. We watched the movie 'Sully' until we heard a knock at our door. It was the turn-down service and time for dinner. We sat with a delightful couple from Singapore - she has yet to receive her luggage but is coping well with one outfit. We think this might be a good reason to pack light - just say: "The airline lost my luggage" and you could wear the same thing everyday.
After dinner we adjourned to the upper deck where there was a lovely breeze and enjoyed our Brandy Alexanders. They are quite addictive. We remained there until 10:30 - then to bed.
